چکیده
Demonstration of dolichoectasia of the basilar artery by CT [1-5] and angiography [6-8] has been well described. We present a case of basilar artery dolichoectasia demonstrated by MR imaging. This has not been previously described in the literature. The important MR features of dolichoectasia of the basilar artery are flowing blood through the residual lumen and fresh blood clot surrounding the lumen.

Ischemic stroke due to intracranial arterial dolichoectasia coexisting with spontaneous dissection of the basilar artery
INTRODUCTION We present a rarely seen case of cerebral infarction due to intracranial dolichoectasia coexisting with spontaneous dissection of the basilar artery. A definition of dolichoectasia, its pathology, and imaging findings, as well as the clinical management and prognosis are briefly reviewed. CONCLUSION We discuss in general terms the diagnosis of basilar artery dissection and its pr...
متن کاملHigh-resolution computed tomography of the basilar artery: 2. Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia: clinical-pathologic correlation and review.
To better define the clinical significance of vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia, the clinical signs and symptoms and basilar artery parameters of diameter, height, and transverse position were evaluated in two groups of symptomatic patients. Ten patients had isolated involvement of the third, sixth, or seventh cranial nerves. The other 10 patients had multiple neurologic deficits including combina...
متن کاملDolichoectasia of the circle of Willis arteries and fusiform aneurysm of basilar artery – case report and review of the literature
BACKGROUND Dolichoectasia of intracranial arteries is a rare arteriopathy characterized by elongation and widening of the arteries and disturbance of the laminar blood flow. It involves mostly vertebral and basilar arteries. In advanced cases, formation of a fusiform aneurysm is possible. CASE REPORT A sixty-four-year-old female with hypertension was admitted to the hospital with severe non-s...
متن کاملHemifacial spasm in a patient with basilar artery dolichoectasia caused by uncontrolled hypertension
A 47-year-old male presented with a 2-year history of hemifacial spasm. Magnetic resonance imaging performed showed his tortuous basilar artery with nerve compression, and the patient was treated conservatively with botulinum toxin injections with complete resolution of symptoms. This rare disease was caused by his long history of hypertension, which led to his major basilar artery dolichoectasia.
متن کاملBasilar and bilateral carotid dolichoectasia with spontaneous dissection of C2 segment of the internal carotid artery.
We describe a previously unreported case of cranial arterial dolichoectasia associated with spontaneous dissection of the petrous (C2) segment of the internal carotid artery (ICA) with 2 patent lumena. Dolichoectasia of the cranial arteries and different types of double lumen of ICA are discussed. A review of previously reported cases is included.
